D onor Testimonial

I was introduced to Breakthrough by its former CEO. Then I saw the Bell Bajao campaign and it struck a chord - a simple yet so powerful message and an answer to the question all of us have: “What can I do?” Or “How can I help?” Breakthrough’s on the ground work on young girls and women in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand resonate with me. I especially like the fact that it involves and brings in boys and young men into the discourse. Social change is difficult, girls and women are changing; it’s the young boys and men who need to change.

For me, freedom is about being able to live with dignity, make your own choices, and dream without fear. Sadly, many women and girls in our country are still denied these basic freedoms because of deeply rooted gender inequality. I support Breakthrough because they are working to change mindsets where it matters most—within families, schools, and communities. Real independence is not just about political freedom; it is about creating a society where every girl can grow up safe, respected, and empowered. I am proud to support Breakthrough in making that vision a reality.

FAQs

How does Breakthrough solve the overwhelming problem of gender-based violence?

Breakthrough works to shift social norms that limit women and girls from reaching their full potential. We work with adolescents and young people aged 11-25 years, to encourage aspiration, agency, leadership and negotiation through our work in schools and communities. We also support them with media tools that shape public narratives.

This has resulted in a generation of young people shifting to think and act in confident, intentional ways. Girls are negotiating to stay in school, delaying marriage, exercising choices around life goals, stepping into non-traditional career paths. Boys are stepping up to contribute, support and uphold equal rights for all.

Your contribution will help us run programmes and campaigns against gender-based violence across 9 states of India. We are a not-for-profit organisation dependent on your invaluable donations to make all our work possible.

Being a non-profit organisation, Breakthrough is legally bound to audit all its accounts by both internal as well as external auditors. Find the reports here.

Fuel for Freedom is Breakthrough’s Independence Day campaign dedicated to empowering adolescents, especially girls, to break free from restrictive gender norms and unequal opportunities.

Through this campaign, your support helps create safe spaces where adolescents can learn, grow, and thrive. It enables girls to stay in school, delay early marriage, build confidence, and prepare for meaningful participation in the workforce.

Every contribution, big or small, helps fuel a future where every girl has the freedom to learn, lead, make her own choices, and live with dignity.

By making a monthly donation, you can create a lasting impact as regular contributions provide a reliable source of funding that allows us to plan ahead, reach more adolescents, and sustain our programmes over the long term. Your ongoing commitment helps create meaningful and lasting change towards a more equal, inclusive, and empowered India.
