Build your own campaign through Film Making, Theatre, Facilitation and Gamification, and Social Research

 

Concept and Design:

The summer internship or Youth leadership training is a comprehensive training program that includes youth from colleges and communities from all over India. Breaking Through focuses on raising a generation of Social Change Agents and Social Change Catalysts in cities where breakthrough is currently working. SCA (social change agents) are transformed and informed youth champion for gender equality and SCC (Social Change Catalyst) together make “Breakthrough Generation Youth” who are transformed and informed youth who are also inspiring and impacting similar journey of transformation among their peers, community and institutions they belong to.

Internship is the next level incubation or training of interested and enthusiastic youth from these spaces whereby they learn the next level skill which is:

1. A more comprehensive and critical understanding on GBD, GBV and allied concerns.

2. Develop, Design and Implement a city level campaign on online/digital platform and on-ground public places and localities.

The month long internship can be divided into the following component:

1. Issue based training –
The issue based training would include diverse topics to build a comprehensive understanding on the following:

· Understanding Gender based discrimination and Safe Space

· Consent, intersectionality and Child safeguarding

· Understanding Power, patriarchy and Gender Based Violence

· Understanding Intimate Partner Violence/Domestic violence and PWDV Act

· Sexual Harassment and law

· Gender and Media

· Masculinity

2. Human Centered Design Thinking –

A universal approach that focuses on empathy and the need of target audience at the center of designing and innovation adapted for the purpose of designing a campaign.

3. Survey –

As part of the Design thinking process, the students are required to conduct a survey in order to compare and critically analyze their perception, assumption and knowledge on gender and its concerns with the voices from ground reality and real lived experiences of people.

4. Skill Based Training –

· Digital media Skills – Understanding usage of digital media as a tool and medium for outreach and inciting social change initiatives. The training also includes a short one-minute-filmmaking for 5 days.

· Theatre/Public Engagement Skills – a specialized training on designing and conducting forum theatre as part of on-ground sensitization program or events. The theatre session will be facilitated by Shilpy Marwah of Sukhmanch Theatre.

· Facilitation skills – A specialized training on basic guidelines, innovative approaches and awareness of possible risk and challenges while spearheading or coordinating a people based campaign or simply in spear heading or sustaining a social change based initiative or movement.

· Social Research (Monitoring and Evaluation) – This is to receive the theoretical understanding of research method and how it fits into social-development sector. Through this training participant will get to know about the research methodology, sampling, how to develop tools through PAPI/CAPI, data collection method, how to do data analysis, and the ethics in research. Participants will also get to know about the importance of Monitoring and Evaluation in project cycle and how this plays a crucial role in the organization.

5. Conducting Campaign Online & On-ground: Rolling out a campaign on FB, Instagram and Twitter as well as in various college campus and community of Delhi.

Way Forward:

Ø Film Making Team – They will create films on social issue and do screening of these films in community, Schools and colleges and co-facilitate the discussion with the groups. They can develop documentary for BT.

Ø Facilitation team – They can do trainings with our community, Schools and campus group. They can also help us for community mobilization event and Campign. They can develop issue based games for the Breakthrough and do facilitation.

Ø Theatre – They will be taught how to create and design a street play on a social issue. The students will then write story and its script. They will be taught how to perform in a street play. After that they will perform in front of an audience. They will later on help or co-facilitate us while conducting theatre workshop in college or communities.

Ø Social Research (Monitoring and Evaluation) – This social research training will help to enhance participants theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of social research monitoring and evaluation in more depth. Participants will be able to apply this knowledge in academic and choose as career option as well.

There is no registration fee for the course.

Selection process:

Posters are put across colleges, University, Students oriented spaces and youth oriented public places in Delhi. We also post call for application on Breakthrough’s social media handles and website. The youth have to fill in a form that seeks to assess the intent, conviction and level of issue based awareness in the design, purpose and objective of the internship program. The forms then go through screening by the experts in Breakthrough to select the 40 best participant for the program.

Note- All the sessions during the course would be conducted in English and Hindi. Breakthrough staff and facilitator hold the power to terminate the internship of a candidate if they breach the code of conduct.
