Gender-Sensitive Training Program by Breakthrough

Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) is a global pandemic that threatens and jeopardizes the lives of half of the world’s population. However, after decades of advocacy and coordinated efforts by women’s movements and feminist activists, VAWG is now being widely recognised as a fundamental violation of human rights, and a serious development and public health issue.

Breakthrough’s system change initiative in preventing Violence against Women and Girls

Despite decades of work addressing the structural changes including the regulatory mechanisms and curative responses to discrimination and violence, transformative systems change for gender equality, with an emphasis on elevating women and girls’ power, agency, and leadership at all levels are difficult to sustain. We work within these environments that systematically disempower women and girls, exacerbated by intersections of caste, class, disability, and gender identities. There is an urgent need to tackle the systems themselves and work at the level of normative changes.

Breakthrough’s work primarily focuses on the prevention of violence and discrimination against women and girls. We aim to bring about a generational shift in discriminatory norms by working with young people, 11 to 25 year old. By working within systems that are inhabited by young people, like schools and village communities, we catalyze change and transform cultural norms that perpetuate violence and discrimination against women and girls; so that girls are valued and are free to make their own life choices.

Call to Join Gender-Sensitive Training

We are inviting applications from all stakeholders who can contribute to ending violence against women. You can be a professional or currently pursuing a degree in gender studies, sociology, or humanities (no restrictions). Breakthrough’s team will provide you with gender-sensitive training, and on-ground exposure to understand the subject matter.
