Jan Sunvai in Kanpur Dehat.

Venue: – Community Radio, Waqt ki Awaaz, Maitha Block, Kanpur Dehat

Breakthrough ran 2 weeks on radio programming through Community Radio, Waqt Ki Awaaz in Uttar Pradesh. The radio show talked about violence against women, how to recognize domestic violence and what one can do to address the same. What services are available for the survivors? Callers will be encouraged to call in and share and experiences, asked questions about violence against women and girls. After this on-air program we culminated the event with a community event organized Jansunvaai to allow survivors to interface with the duty-bearers

Breakthrough brought together Protection Officers, DIG, IG, SP, DM, local service providers and key people from media to put pressure for appointment of a Protection Officer for Kanpur Dehat.

This was a very effective effort to make higher authorities of the society aware of the issue, and call for answers and action. The commissioner of Kanpur Mo. Ifthikaar, Sheela Singh member of Rajya mahila Aayog, DIG MR Neelabja Choudhary, DM Mr. Masoom ali Server and SP Dehat Mr. V.B. Singh, Each one gave their views on the Jansunvaai and and responded to queries and stories from community members in the audience.

Anchoring was done by Krati Prakash State Manager of Breakthrough, while Joshy Jose (Director-Program Implementation Breakthrough) gave a brief introduction of Breakthrough and this campaign. With this jansunvaai we provided a platform to community members to take their answers to government officers and action. Many community members direct talk with the responsible person of the society and share their problems and wanted to find solutions. More than one thousand person was presented in the jansunvaai. All the community members were very pleased and very curious to talk with government officials. Rights Advocates and the change makers were honored by government officials.  Not only women but men also have raised their voice against domestic violence. Men also shared their change story on the stage.
