We walked into a new year with the ghost of the Bengaluru Mass Molestation case haunting us. Women were being molested. There were a lot of people around. Nobody did anything. Nothing at all.
You just read a story about a school going girl. She faces sexual harassment on a public bus. The witness does not speak up. The girl feels ashamed of what had happened to her. Her zeal for life has been stomped upon. She has very blatantly been shown her place in the society.
Speaking up or intervening, when you see harassment, is telling the person affected that they are not alone in this fight. This is what the young girl and several other girls and women are asking for. For you to stand by them.
