The Covid-19 pandemic has made the vulnerable even more vulnerable.
You can help address vaccine hesitancy amongst women and ensure that girls don’t drop out of school and fall into the vicious cycle of discrimination and violence. In doing so, you help us address and understand the impact of COVID-19 on the girl child.
Donate now and help strengthen
our response to the Covid-19 crisis.
Covid-19 is not just a health crisis for women and girls:
Fewer women are being vaccinated in our country. Women are still carrying the burden of household chores alone, even when they are Covid positive! Girls are dropping out of school and are being pushed into early marriage. Cases of domestic violence have spiked. We still don’t realise the full impact of COVID-19 on the girl child.
Breakthrough is working to ensure that these issues are highlighted and women
and girls have the support they need. Here’s how:
1
Raising awareness about Covid-19 vaccination, specifically focussing on women by:
– Working with frontline workers and local authorities. | – Breakthrough youth leaders are running awareness campaigns in their communities. | |
– Creating and sharing communication material which encourages Covid-19 vaccination. | – Speaking about the impact of COVID-19 on girl child. |
2
Consistently talking to adolescents and their families to ensure their well being during these difficult times and having focussed discussions on issues like girls dropping out of school, being pushed into early marriage.
Ensuring the mental well being of adolescents and youth that we work with through care circles and barefoot counselling.
Training frontline workers and local authorities on the issue of domestic violence to ensure that domestic violence survivors have the support they need.
Building a network of responsible citizens who can take action against domestic violence and other forms of gender based violence around them.
Strengthening government response on these issues and building awareness on digital and other media platforms.
